Dual Brains in the house! We succeeded this week in collecting data from two individuals simultaneously connected to OpenBCI. Shown here is me wearing the Ultracortex Mark III together with Aaron wearing his custom EEG headgear, which he designed and 3D printed especially for this project.
Besides EEG, we also succeeded in acquiring data from ECG. We hope to next add a galvanic EMG measurement to this Art-a-Hack project.
The aim of Dual Brains is to present a performance of data-driven visuals, which are created by the streaming of two people’s EEG, ECG, and EMG values, in real-time. The animations will be projected on a screen.
The concept here is to investigate independent and interdependent neural processing between two people through a correlation of the above data, presented in a way that is visually compelling and meaningful.
The upcoming July 15th demo performance should be fun. What we’ll end up with is yet to be discovered, but hey, we’re psyched about this art-sci-tech hack work-in-progress!

By next meeting, we should have more of Aaron’s custom headgear completed so that we can continue our data collecting trials from exceptionally well-fitted hardware, which means excellent electrode-cortical contact. Meanwhile, Pat, Gal and I are working to further develop the data-driven visual and audio prototypes.
Really enjoying my fellow Art-a-Hackers’ insights, talents, work and fun company! I’m looking forward to seeing what we will continue to develop.
See what other Art-a-Hack teams are up to here.
