Art-a-Hack First Meeting

IMG_8373

Last week was the first Art-a-Hack meet & greet evening at Thoughtworks, followed by the first hacking session at NYU Tandon School of Engineering.

My Dual Brains team consists of the talented Aaron Trocola, Gabe Ibagon, Pat Shiu, and Gal Nissim.

Art-a-Hack First Week

Gabe is seen here wearing an OpenBCI EEG headgear called the Ultracortex Mark III. Our Dual Brains project is to investigate independent vs. interdependent neural processing in correlation with EKG and EMG. The aim is to have two people simultaneously connected to OpenBCI, and their brain data visualized as data-generated art in real time.

We hope to show meaningful independent conditions compared with interdependent conditions when the individuals interact with each other in mutual support.

We spent the day setting up hardware, programs, visuals, and discussing possibilities–how to best design and place the electrodes, how to ensure getting clean data, how to reduce noise, how to analyze the data and then generate compelling and insightful visuals, etc.

We all look forward to what we can create together! It’s such a cool thing about collaborating, this potential for making something greater than the sum of its parts by combining individuals’ skills.
